Under Our Skin: The Hidden Reality of Lyme Disease

Bartonella, Rickettsia, Ehrlichia, and Babesia

the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS)

A big part of the problem is that Lyme disease is notoriously difficult to diagnose using conventional lab tests. One of the reasons blood tests are so unreliable as indicators of Lyme infection is that the spirochete has found a way to infect your white blood cells.
Lab tests rely on the normal function of these cells to produce the antibodies they measure. If your white cells are infected, they don’t respond to an infection appropriately. Interestingly, the worse yourBorrelia infection is, the less likely it will show up on a blood test. In order for Lyme tests to be useful, you have to be treated first. Once your immune system begins to respond normally, only then will the antibodies show up.
This is called the “Lyme Paradox”—you have to be treated before a proper diagnosis can be made.
I recommend the specialized lab called Igenex because they test for more outer surface proteins (bands), and can often detect Lyme while standard blood tests cannot. Igenex also tests for a few strains of co-infections such as Babesia and Erhlichia.
That said, a negative on the Igenex test for these co-infections doesn’t necessarily mean you are not infected, there are many more strains than they can test.

The History and Discovery of Lyme Disease

Ticks can also simultaneously infect you with a number of other disease-causing organisms, such asBartonella, Rickettsia, Ehrlichia, and Babesia. Any or all of these organisms can travel with Borrelia burgdorferi (the causative agent of Lyme) and each organism causes a different set of symptoms. Many Lyme patients have one or more of these co-infections, which may or may not respond to any given treatment.

Lyme symptoms can start with flu like symptoms, headaches, muscle and joint pain. Over time, the symptoms can continue to worsen and turn into a long-lived inflammatory response and autoimmune illness.

In testing for lyme, several tests are available the most popular being a combination of the Western blot and ELISA test which measure specific

antibodies in the blood. This testing has flaws and is far from conclusive. Another test that may be effective in diagnosing Lyme disease is direct microscopy which is done by Fry Labs in Arizona. This is the preferred method often done with traditional testing for holistic health practitioners.

The “REAL” Cause of Lyme Disease
It may seem like we know the cause of Lyme disease which is an infection caused by a tick bite, but the truth is the cause of disease is more in-depth than that.

I believe the real cause of chronic Lyme disease is related to these 4 things:
Weakened immunity
Inhibited cellular function and protection
Systemic bacterial infection
Environmental factors including exposure to mold and parasites

If you are going to heal from Lyme all of these issues must be addressed.

Immune Function Key for Killing Lyme

Natural News Blogs CDC Alert: Lyme Disease On The Rise Across The US, 5 Natural Cure for Lyme Disease

Meanwhile, rates of the disease may be decreasing in southern states as warmer temperatures there allow an expansion of lizard populations from farther south. Lizards are “dead-end hosts” of the Lyme disease bacteria, meaning they do not transmit the disease to humans.
If you can naturally boost your immune system, your body can overcome lyme and balance out your immune and inflammatory responses.
5 Natural Treatments for Lyme Disease
Immune Boosting
Mushrooms including cordycep, reishi and maitake mushrooms have been proven to activate your immune response. These mushrooms boost an intracellular antioxidant called superoxide dismutase (SOD) that protects your cells. Also, they increase function of natural killer cells that can kill off bad bacteria.
ProbioticsProbiotic foods may help replenish beneficial bacteria in the gut that are wiped out by antibiotic Lyme disease treatment. Organic yogurt, kefir, and even fermented vegetables are good sources of probiotics.
Green tea
Green tea compounds, along with curcumin, a component of the spice turmeric, are known to reduce oxidative stress and help aid in traditional antibiotic treatment.
Vitamin D3naturally boosts immunity and it’s vital to supplement with around 5,000IU daily especially if you live in the northern region of the world and don’t get much direct sunlight exposure.
Bone BrothIt contains proline and glycine and can help repair a leaky gut and enhance immune function so this can be a health transforming food.

‘Not Just Lyme Disease Anymore': 7 New Reasons To Fear Ticks This Summer | CommonHealth

‘Not Just Lyme Disease Anymore': 7 New Reasons To Fear Ticks This Summer | CommonHealth

  • lyme
  • anaplasmosis
  • babesiosis
  • Borrelia miyamotoi
  • Powassan (POW) virus
Lone star ticks:
  • Ehrlichiosis
  • tularemia
  • Rocky Mountain spotted fever

anaplasmosis :
suddenly got too sick to get out of bed, as if with a summer flu — fever, sweats and chills, headache. Then he got even sicker. His test results looked dire: protein and bile in his urine; liver function gone haywire; platelets, red and white blood cells down so low that his chart looked like he had leukemia, a doctor told him
Borrelia miyamotoi
first reported in 2013 and causes flu-like feverish illnesses so severe that a recent study found that about one-quarter of patients who tested positive for it had landed in the hospital.
Powassan
It remains exceedingly rare — only about 60 confirmed cases nationwide over the last decade — but, she says, it’s like equine encephalitis in that it “has a predilection for the central nervous system, and it carries a 10 percent mortality rate.”

And unlike anaplasmosis or babesiosis, which respond well to antibiotics, it has no treatment.
In other words, even tick babies [ticks still in the larval stage] are bad. And the period of peak tick vigilance may need to be extended from summer into fall. (Already, some ecologists are calling for heightened tick vigilance in the Northeast earlier in the spring, starting in April.)
Bottom line: If you’re in an area with Lyme ... other infections are likely.

Treatment Options
If a conventional doctor believes that you have parasites, he will prescribe you an anti-parasitic pharmaceutical. These pharmaceuticals are always toxic, for it is their toxicity that kills parasites. Thus, swelling of the lymph nodes, hands and feet are common, whilst vision problems, lack of coordination, and convulsions can also occur. Diarrhea is typical with these drugs.
These are the most commonly used natural substances for eliminating parasitic infections:

  • Black Walnut Hulls
  • Wormwood (from the Artemisia shrub)
  • Common Cloves (from the clove tree)
  • Pumpkin Seeds, or Pumpkin Seed Oil Capsules
  • Garlic
  • Neem (Do not take neem if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, because it can work as a contraceptive.)
  • Thyme leaf and seed
  • Marshmallow root
  • Diatomaceous Earth
Blends of the above ingredients, with marketing names like ‘Para-Clear’.

We would not recommend choosing one of the corporate formulas, since they are usually overpriced and formulated with low concentrations. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to examine each formula, and evaluate them.
Diatomaceous earth is the best natural anti-parasitic medication. It is actually an all-natural pesticide which does not harm humans or pets. It is believed to kill insects, worms and parasites by dehydrating them. When used on ants, it usually takes around 20 minutes before they are all dead. One tablespoon of diatomaceaous earth taken by an adult once a day for seven days is believed to be extremely effective at killing all parasites. If this is going to be given to children, bear in mind that height is a better indicator of the size of their G.I. tract than their weight. Thus, a child who is 4 feet tall should take 2 teaspoons, and a child who is 2 feet tall should take 1 teaspoon. If you take this route, we advise you to only buy food grade. Industrial diatomaceous earth is used for swimming pool filters, but it has been chemically treated, and this type is not safe to eat. Try to avoid rubbing it onto your hands, as it can have a drying effect upon the skin. Diatomaceous earth contains heavy metals as part of its mineral content, but it also contains the natural antidote, selenium, which allows otherwise accumulative heavy metals to be flushed from the body. Therefore, it is not really a health concern despite the presence of aluminum and lead. We recommend taking selenium supplements for a week after discontinuing this treatment to ensure that the body thoroughly flushes all of the heavy metals. Our research indicates that diatomaceous earth is the best overall parasite treatment for humans, because it should likewise kill all microscopic blood-born parasites as well. When using it, be sure to drink plenty of fluids, because it will dehydrate a person considerably.
Wormwood and black walnut hulls are known to kill adult worms, whilst cloves kill worm eggs. Some people use this trio for treating parasites, instead of diatomaceous earth. It is recommended that you take 500 mg. of wormwood and black walnut hulls, whilst taking 1/2 teaspoon of cloves daily for around 14 days. All other herbs mentioned are used in addition to these two core protocols.
As parasites die, they release toxins through their excrement, and from rotting. The most common parasites, the worm type, attempt to escape by burrowing deeper into the intestines, which can cause sharp pains and cramps. Even when dead, the body is still burdened with the task of flushing them out. This whole process can initially make the person feel sicker than before he started the cleanse, but this is only temporary, and it is a sign that the cleanse is working. While fatigue and grogginess are also to be expected, normal life may be continued, and diarrhea should not occur. Ensure that you are eating a good, wholesome diet throughout the cleanse to ensure that your immune system is at its strongest. After the cleanse, you should feel better, have more energy, and experience sickness less often.
