Shred the leaves and put them in a big pot with the washing soda(1/2 table spoon) to a qt. of water. Bring to a boil and let the mixture simmer for 20 minutes, stir frequently.
Strain the mixture through a sieve or cheesecloth and pour it into a container. That's it, you've made homemade Eco Ivy Detergent!
1.Gather 50-60 English Ivy leaves.
2.Chop them up.
3.Simmer in a quart of water for 20 minutes.
4.Let it sit overnight.
5.Strain the following morning, squeezing the liquid from the leaves.
6.Use ½ to 1 cup per load.
7.Store remainder in the fridge.
8.Do some laundry!
The washing soda improves the cleaning capabilities and it also kills any germs in the solution which causes the ivy detergent to last longer.
This mixture works best when used fresh and should be used within a few days. Storing it in the fridge or a cool dark cupboard will increase its lifespan.
